About the Business & IP Centre

The British Library Business & IP Centre in London is part-funded by the London Development Agency (LDA). It launched in March 2006 and supports entrepreneurs, inventors and small businesses from that first spark of inspiration to successfully launching and developing a business. Since the launch over 250,000 entrepreneurs have used the Centre. The British Library Business & IP Centre is also a designated PATLIB UK centre.

Our aim is to create and develop a successful Business & IP Centre based on the British Library model. The Centre will be a hub for supporting the business community of the North East and a valuable service for entrepreneurs and businesses.

New services will include:

  • Networking/partnership area
  • Continuing programme of workshops and events
  • Business e-newsletter
  • Stronger partnerships
  • Access to further business resources

All of which will be supported by the staff and resources of Newcastle Libraries and by the skills and expertise of the British Library.

What we’re doing now

Many of the services which will be provided as part of the future Business & IP Centre are already available at Newcastle City Library. Here you can find a dedicated ‘Business‘ space containing up to date information on business start ups, entrepreneurs, marketing and intellectual property (IP) as well as access to online subscription databases. We also offer 1:1 sessions with professional experts on topics such as business, finance, law and IP.

Newcastle City Library is a designated PATLIB UK centre. PATLIB UK is part of a Europe-wide network of patent information centres. Find out more about PATLIB UK.
