In 2012 the government introduced automatic enrolment which was phased in over the next five years. As a result any business paying staff through PAYE must ensure they provide access to and (in most cases) pay into a workplace pension or their employees. There are a number of tasks and requirements which employers must meet or they could face a fine and further action from the Pensions Regulator.
